ElectraFlo Vs. Salt Softeners

Salt softened water is corrosive to appliances and copper piping.  Large companies that track the life of their water heaters nationwide, found that salt softeners did not extend the life of their water heaters compared to using no water treatment due to the corrosive nature of the salt water.

You have probably heard not to purchase a used car that was originally from the northern regions of the United States because they use salt on the icy roads in the winter.  While road salting helps people travel safely, it can cause major body and undercarriage damage to your vehicles because of the corrosive nature of salt.

The ElectraFlo significantly lengthens the life of water appliances and causes them to run more efficiently.  Unlike a salt water softener, The ElectraFlo eliminates scale build-up in water appliances and even removes existing build-up without adding salt.

All traditional salt type water softeners utilize a process called “ion exchange,” which is a chemical change to water. A salt type water softener removes the cation minerals in the water, which are mainly calcium and magnesium, and replaces them with 2 sodium ions. It is a 2 for 1 exchange that follows basic chemistry properties. If you have hard water then you can imagine how much sodium you would have in your water by adding 2 sodium ions for every calcium or magnesium caution. Click here to read a short article from the Mayo Clinic about sodium levels added to water when using a salt type water softener. Because your skin absorbs water when showering or bathing, some Doctors advise patients with high blood pressure not to shower in or drink salt softened water.

The ElectraFlo does not add anything to or remove anything from the water.

Salt softeners must be regularly recharged by purchasing and adding more salt and back-flushing with fresh water, which is costly, inconvenient, corrosive to pipes, harmful to the environment and wasteful of water.  Maintenance and repair can be very expensive.  Wastewater treatment plants do not remove the salt discharged by water softeners, so most all the salt ends up in streams, rivers or aquifers.

The ElectraFlo requires no maintenance, no residual costs and do not harm the environment.

Salt softeners can not be installed when space is at a minimum.

The ElectraFlo can be installed even in very tight spaces.

Currently, 34 states have partial bans on the sale of regenerative water softeners.

More than 25 communities in California have already banned or restricted the use of such water softeners on the grounds that they are hazardous to the environment.  The California communities include cities in such counties as Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside, Korn, Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Marcos, and Tularc.

Based on estimates from the Salt Institute of America, in 1994 Americans spent approximately $240 million to purchase 2.6 million tons of salt for use in water softeners.
