We
have reached to a point that, all sources of our drinking water,
including municipal water systems, wells, lakes, rivers, and even
glaciers, contain some level of contamination. Contaminants range from
hazardous household wastes, septic
systems, prescription drugs, lawn and
garden chemicals, leaking fuel storage tanks,
Oilfield/Industrial Solvents , animal waste, agricultural
chemicals, landfills, human error, and
leaching of metals from plumbing systems
While many contaminants are found at levels not high enough to cause
immediate discomforts or sicknesses , it is proven that even low-level
exposure to many common contaminants will, over time, cause severe
illness including liver damage, cancer, and other serious ailments. Even
the chemicals commonly used to treat municipal water supplies such as
chlorine
and
fluoride are toxic and are known to have significant adverse
effects on the human body.
The National Cancer Institute estimates cancer risks for people who
consume chlorinated water to be 93% higher than for people who do not.
Chlorinated water has also been linked to reproductive and developmental
effects in children, heart disease, breast cancer in women, bladder
cancer in men. As our population has grown and we’ve increased the
number of chemicals we use, we’ve inadvertently
contaminated
the water we drink. |
